Why newborn photography is right for me and why I might be right for you…

Blog post 1-2

I loved my newborns!  Izzy and Kenzi, both less than 6 pounds and PERFECT!

Newborns are soft and tiny and sleepy.  What’s not to love?  Well… newborn photography is SOOOO much more work than I could have ever imagined.  Babies are unpredictable.  I’ve had a baby fuss for so long I didn’t get the first shot until more than an hour into the session.  I’ve had a baby on a sleep strike… awake nearly the entire three and a half hour session, and I needed him asleep!  During a newborn session I sweat… a lot… because the room is roughly 80 degrees for 3-4 hours.  There are pees and poops without warning.

And I LOVE every bit of it.

There is truly no better feeling than capturing such a special time in a family’s life.

I really love the sweetly posed newborn shots. They are absolutely adorable and I will always incorporate them into my sessions. But what are most special to me are the “lifestyle” shots.  The tiny fingers and those precious little toes, baby in the nursery, cuddling with mom in a rocking chair or staring lovingly up at dad.  These are the moments that really happen and the moments you want to hold onto forever.  They are also the details that become difficult to remember as the years pass by.

It’s crazy how a photograph can instantly bring you back to a moment in time.  Your newborn’s first few days are memories you will love revisiting over and over again, and despite the challenges that bringing home a newborn may present the only thing that you will remember is the miracle that happened, and the way that soft, tiny, sleepy newborn changed your life in ways you never could have imagined.

LOVE!
